Rachel came up to me with a stick of shortening and asked if she could have one. After I told her what it was, she told me that she saw the picture (of cookies) and thought that's what it was, but "allvegetable" flavored.
Rachel was concerned and asked me about Adam and Eve. I expected something about not fitting with science when she said, If Adam and Eve were the first people on earth, why didn't they have a last name?
Today on the way home from piano lessons Rachel got a special treat from her teacher for practicing a certain amount of time. She came into the car and read the back of her gummy life savors. One was blackberry flavor. Now, I've been trying to teach my kids to try new things, even if they don't think they'll like them. Rachel is one of the worst at this. But when she read the flavor options she said very sweetly: hm, I've never tasted blackberry, I might not like it--but I'm going to try it. How brave of her, to taste a new flavor of candy. I'm getting somewhere.
Yesterday I was doing Rachel's hair and noticed that all the clippies were not on the clippy board. I asked her where they were, and she answered as casually as possible "I know, I saw that they weren't there and wondered where the hell they were." I just laughed, so much that I didn't even correct her.
On our way to pick Lindsey up from the high school, Gracie complained and asked "are we picking up her friends too?" I answered yes (we car pool) and she whined "I don't want to pick her friends up because they smell bad."
When my mom called and Gracie answered, she asked Gracie what she was doing. Gracie laughed and said "I'm talking to you grandma!"
Rachel said that we should not run in parking lots because if we ran fast a car might not see us and think we were just wind.
I was 3 inches from running down a skunk with my bike in Sabino Canyon. I yelled in fear and braked as hard as I could and wasn't sprayed. Thank goodness!
This morning (September 17th) it was 62 degrees. Rachel went outside and said it felt like winter.
Gracie told Daniel when we were going to bed: "don't have night mares, because those are the not happy ones."
Kimmer asked me which is healthier: a pancake with syrup or a pancake with chocolate chips? I said they were probably equal in healthiness. Then she asked: Which makes you happier?
Rachel told me that she wished we were really poor so we could get really good Christmas gifts.
Rachel has been inspired by prayer lately. She loves to say long flowery prayers. The other night she said she was grateful for the opportunities we have in our country, like . . . then she paused and thought for a minute, like . . . hot water. Amen!
When Gracie prays, it sounds an awful lot like she is saying Dear Harry Potter.
Kimmer saw Janie smiling while sleeping and was asking what babies dream about that would make them smile. One of her conclusions was that Janie was dreaming of not being in a car seat for an entire day.
When we got home from our vacation Rachel said she had already forgotten about our house.
My dad asked Rachel: since last summer Lindsey studied algebra so she could skip a level, what is she going to do this summer? Rachel answered without skipping a beat that she was going to find out how the world works.
Out of the blue, without any previous conversation Gracie asked me to remind her to get a dress when she gets married.
While on our 2 week vacation Gracie asked me when were we going to go to our house that is only ours.
that is awesome...you gotta teach me how to do those videos...we are all siting here drooling over that sunshine!
